Symbolism of The Lotus and The Muddy Pond

ESPsychic Mandy discusses the “Lotus” and the “Muddy Pond” and what these powerful Buddhist symbols represent.

For those who do not know the symbolism of the lotus and the muddy pond, you are not alone. I would not know for myself until a year ago. The most I understood was that the lotus was a symbol of spiritual purity. I did not know why. That is, until a friend shared with me a vision she received involving lotus flowers. This would inspire me to look up the symbolism of a lotus to ascertain what her vision was communicating.

What I came across was a quote from the Lalitavistara, a sacred text of the life of Buddha by Dhrarmaraksha (308 AD). It states:

“The spirit of the best of men is spotless, like the new lotus in the muddy water which does not adhere to it.” 

What I would learn is that this beautiful flower gains its symbolism from the fact that it begins its life deeply rooted in the muddy pond. It then sprouts out of the muddy water and flowers above it, in a manner which its petals do not touch the pond's mud or slime. Therefore, as a symbol, the lotus can represent growing up in a world that is full of various conflicts and impurity, while having the ability to rise above it and remain untouched. This state of remaining 'untouched' allows for “enlightenment;” define as:

“A blessed state in which the individual transcends desire and suffering and attains Nirvana.” -TheFree Dictionary.com 

To further understand the symbolism of the lotus, it helps to also understand the symbolism of the muddy pond.

 

What does the muddy pond symbolize?

If we can see the water of the pond as representing our thoughts, emotions and desires, the mud and slime in the pond then represents how these can become clouded; blocking us from having a clear perception of our most pure and natural Self.

Relating this to our human experience, the muddy pond can represent being conditioned from birth to adhere to various socially accepted mind-sets; perceiving that they represent the truth of who we are and how we should live. For instance, we learn from a young age that approval is given if we obey certain rules, laws and customs; or if we share certain beliefs. These beliefs and mind-sets form our desires. In Buddhism, many of our desires and attachments to the world and its thought patterns are seen as the source of our suffering.

When it comes to my book I Am the Lotus, Not the Muddy Pond, the “muddy pond” represents the “polluted part” of what I call "the collective consciousness."

 

What is this “collective consciousness?”

In effect, it is the bigger pond of consciousness that connects most of us together--concerning the way we think and behave.

We all have our own individual consciousness and can make individual decisions, but the collective forms its own body of consciousness and makes its own decisions--which are subject to the same laws of manifestation that our individual consciousness is. In fact, many of our thoughts may not solely be our own. They may result from our being “tapped into” a bigger pond of consciousness. Ultimately, we both affect the collective consciousness with our individual thoughts and are affected by it, as well.

These ponds of collective thinking form the various social mind-sets that we base our lives and identity upon. These “ponds” or mind-sets can also become “polluted” in the same way our individual thought patterns can: via unhealthy thinking patters, fear, unworthiness, self-sabotaging habits, etc. The collective consciousness merely reflects the thoughts and feelings of the individuals, and groups of individuals, that influence it.

For example, many of us find security in following the same lifestyles, rules, behaviors, desires, ethics and ideas of money and ownership as others. We are therefore conforming to a collective consciousness. We are also affected by the media, various books, gurus and religious leaders which tells us what to strive for, what to own, what styles are popular, what to eat, drink, watch, and more. We then take on these thought forms as our own and mistake them for who we are. That is, unless we can learn to rise above these mind-sets and see them for what they truly represent: that they are not our true Self--as represented by the lotus that rises above the mud.

 

Does this make the lotus a symbol of hope?

Yes. Through denoting our ability to rise out of this pond of mud, the lotus, in a way, becomes a symbol of hope. Each stage of the lotus represents a stage in awakening. Awakening, then, becomes the ability to fully see the pond, while recognizing that it is not the truth of who we are. When we begin to awaken this way, we begin to rise above the pond.

The stages of enlightenment can be symbolized by whether a lotus is fully open, partly open, or closed. A closed lotus represents the Buddhist before he finds enlightenment; while the open lotus represents the attainment of enlightenment. This is why Buddha is often depicted as seated inside of an open lotus flower.

The different colors of the lotus also have symbolic meaning:

• The white lotus symbolizes purity of body, mind and spirit.
• The blue lotus symbolizes wisdom and knowledge.
• The red lotus is a symbol of love, passion and a giving heart.
• The purple lotus symbolizes the mystic and mysticism.

As for the pink lotus, I found two interpretations. One states that the pink lotus is supreme and symbolizes the Buddha himself. The other interpretation is that it symbolizes the history of Buddha. In the latter definition, the gold lotus symbolizes the attainment of Buddhahood/enlightenment.

 

Becoming a more open lotus can help heal the world!

In no way do I claim to be on the path of enlightenment. I am merely a student. What I write about is largely my own journey as I learn to see the pond’s mud for what it is: MUD.

In the end, I believe our ability to find our lotus Self is dependent upon being able to let go of the need to conform to various ways of the world or lifestyles. When more of us are able to do this, we will begin to purify the pond of collective consciousness. Then, we will have the capability to bring real love, inspired unity and peace into our world.

I have been blessed with psychic ability, empathy and an ability to heal using energy. There are so many things that would happen that I could not explain, nor did I want to talk about it to anyone. I have accepted that I do have psychic gifts and healing abilities. If you feel you are different, try to talk about it with someone else who you know does not judge you, that is the first step.

Here are a list of things that can help you identify if you have psychic gifts:

1. Feeling spirit activity

There are reasons to why you want to sleep with the lights on and raise your electricity bill out of the roof. There are reasons as to why your hair on your arms, neck or back stand straight up when you walk into the basement. You can feel spirits present. You cannot deny a part of who you are because once you do deny, then you are stuffing a gift down inside. The first thing to enhance your gifts is to acknowledge to yourself that you could actually be different and feel more than normal people. This does not mean that you are a nature of freak, it just means that you can feel more.
2. Connecting to a person's spirit is when you walk into a room full of people

Do you stare at someone as if your in a trance? And no matter which part of the room you are in, your head keeps turning to that person? This means that there is a familiar feeling from that person's energy. They could be going through something similar to you in the present. They could also be feeling the same way you do. You feel like you have spoken to this person before or they look familiar. What you are feeling is their aura and you have a connection with this person. You are connecting with a person's aura and its a positive thing. Unless they tell you to take a picture it lasts longer.

3. Knowing what someone is going to say before they say it

Do you know what someone is going to say, before they say it? This is reading someone's mind, called ESP or Extra Sensory Perception. This is a sure sign that you are picking up the thoughts in someone's mind and their thoughts transfer like lightning onto your brain. If you are doing this, you may want to choose which person's thoughts you are feeling, acknowledge it to yourself and mentally throw it back onto the person. Empathy is also a form of ESP where a person's emotional state transfers onto you as if you are now their emotions. We call people who absorb people's feelings an empathic sponge. They are soaking up the feelings to feel how the person is exactly feeling in order to deliver a message.

4. Ability to locate lost or missing objects

When someone asks you "where are my keys", your body automatically goes to the place where the missing keys are. This is called finding. You can feel where an object is if it is hidden or not, your body goes to find it. A more advanced technique of finding is called remote viewing. This is when you are on the phone with someone, and you can describe where they are at and actually see colors of walls or type of interior. This comes with practice and is also combined with a gift called Clairvoyant.

5. Psychic precognition

This is when you state a fact about the future and predicting if they will be getting a job, or breaking up with their partner, traveling to another country, getting the house they bid on and so on. Some psychics have premonitions of bad events as well but are not necessarily trying to poison your mind and make you feel negative. A true psychic will deliver it in a positive and loving way.

If you feel that you have any of these gifts then try to read up more on how to exercise them as opposed to denying them. You do not have to become a professional psychic. The beauty of these gifts can be applied to everyday use with your family, job, health, finance and creativity. This just makes you more well rounded in all aspects of your life. There are many gifts that I have not mentioned here, but I will be writing more often than not.

Happiness In The World

Something has bothered me for most of my life. I try to explain and never had the speaking skills to help people understand. I decided to write it in hopes that maybe I can help add to anyone’s happiness. I really believe that this is imperative to healthy and happy living. I am very passionate about this. I may even sound repetitive.

Please do not believe that happiness can only come from within. When I hear people say this I feel nothing but pure sadness for the person who believes this.

Happiness comes from God or your creator. You can be happy doing the things you love to do. There is nothing wrong with that and it is not perusing a false sense of happiness. It is okay to look for happiness in things that make you feel good. If it feels good, it is from God. It is not a false sense of good. It is just good.

The positive, healthy, good things I do that bring happiness in my life are riding bike, hiking, walking, writing, reading, learning, swimming, yoga, church, crocheting, and photography to name a few. I enjoy many things that bring happiness in to my life including children and family. I always find happiness everywhere. This is very significant. The reason why I find happiness everywhere is that I believe God is everywhere. I do not believe that my creator only exists within my heart.

If I believed that happiness could only come from within, cancer would kill me. I find happiness everywhere. I choose to do things to add to my happiness adding to my overall health. Whether cancer or not pursue happiness within and in the world.

Your creator is everywhere. Therefore finding happiness is easy. Happiness is an experience that is in you and in the world. Your creator is in your heart and in the world. He is in the couch you sit on, the trees, objects, people, animals, hands, fingers, toes, EVERYTHING. Happiness is in ALL! That is why happiness comes from anywhere and anything.

Realizing that God is everywhere will bring happiness. Everything you do will bring happiness to you. God created all therefore he is ALL. Pursuing happiness inside of you and outside of you is what God wants you to do. He wants you to enjoy YOU, the world he made, and the world he continues to make. He makes the roads through the hands of construction workers. He puts happiness and love in everything. It is your choice to see that God exists in ALL. That is what he wants you to know. Your creator is waiting for you to enjoy everything. All you have to do is choose to believe.

Start believing that God is everywhere and become enlightened with love and happiness. Happiness IS beyond your heart, it is EVERYWHERE. Choose to see that good spark of God in everything!

ESPsychics Rocks!

I have been working on psychic advisor lines for many years. I can still remember the fear I felt the first time I gave a complete stranger a reading over the phone. Talk about trusting your Guides and Angels to come through! And they have ever since.

The first line I worked for paid me twenty cents a minute and charged their clients much more. They were unethical to their customers and advisers. The company would not allow their clients to buy minutes upfront so they could keep racking up their credit card bill. My manager told me I gave my readings too efficiently and quickly. She wanted me to keep them on longer. Which I refused to do and became popular quickly with clients. One of my clients was astonished that I had used my real picture because another adviser had a famous authors picture on their profile! I was on that line for a month before finding a much more ethical line to work for.

I worked for four other popular lines  that treated their clients and advisers much better than the first: with dignity. The only problem was they paid, “Minimum wages for psychics.” Those lines will remain nameless, but they paid their psychics  anywhere from 32 to 75 cents a minute. These lines had some very nice clients. But they also had some clients that were very needy and rude. The way I do my readings is  to give them the information the way I receive it. One woman asked me when a guy she liked was going to call. I told her on Friday and she wanted to know what time on Friday.  She got angry when I couldn’t give her a time.

I remember the first time someone hung up on me as I was giving information. I was so devastated! The phone rang immediately afterwards and I had to recover quickly. After a while, I got thick skin because I realized they didn’t like hearing the truth. In time, I got tired of giving my best to those abusive clients for such low pay. I used to hope that they would hang up and not add any more money. Maybe if I were getting paid more it would have been easier to take. I was thrilled to leave them behind.

The lines I work for today are totally different.

ESPsychics psychics are vibrating at a much higher vibration than the past lines I worked for. We are light workers working hard to help others.  ESPsychics treats their psychics with respect and compensates us well. Because of that we give it our all.

Of course, you will want to create your own I AM’s. Gratitude expands energy fields and your own potential. Feeling gratitude creates opportunities for excellence. First Time Getting A Psychic Reading?

There are many psychics in cyber land, so in order to pick a good psychic, I have listed some things to do before you pay.

First, look to see if the psychic has any credentials. It is not completely important to have them, but it is a good sign that the psychic is serious and cares about his or her reputation.

Second, look to see what options are available or if there are a free minutes offered by the psychic website.

How To Tell If There Is A Connection:

A genuine psychic can usually connect with you within the first two minutes of a conversation. You can tell if you’re connected because they are able to offer information such as:

• the color of your hair
• your physical ailments in the present or from the past.
• a crossed over spirit (and may mention that spirit)
• a feeling for why you are calling

You basically can tell if you have a connection because your ears are stuck to the phone. If not connected,  you may want to get off the line because your anxiety has hit the roof.  Watch how you feel; e.g  do you feel energetic and calm, or do you feel that the psychic is speaking in a language that is not resonating with you?  You as a client have the right to say, “I do not feel a connection, I am going to hang up.”

Choosing A Psychic:

When choosing a psychic, read their bios, testimonials, and their personal inspiring messages. You can usually tell by looking at a photo and reading up on the person whether you intuitively feel a connection or a familiar feeling from them. If you turn away quickly from other psychics, your body is telling you to leave like a haunted house, get out! Understand that you are intuitive yourself.  Also, how you act when on the phone with them is very important as well!

Testing A Psychic:

I am not saying for you to test every psychic, but if you do try a few, there are some things to notice as well, e.g.

1. The psychic should speak confidently and say “I feel” not “I think.”
2. The psychic could ask you a few questions that you may have to say yes or no to validate what they are picking up on.
3. If they ask you too many questions, and it sounds like an interview, they are fishing for information.
4. The psychic should also come up with messages that are accurate to how you are feeling emotionally, spiritually, physically, or relationships around you.
5. If they are not hitting anything and are very general, you do not want to continue a longer reading with them.

There are many other things that I could list, and the obvious ones are: do not give anyone money to get your boyfriend back.  No one should ask you to pay for a spell castings for $3,000, either.

Another way is to look at the prices they charge. If the prices are $20.00/minute, then that is fishy. If they say $5 and then they ask you for $300 more, that is fishy. If they say Free and it’s not, that is a ploy to get you to visit their site.

You have to use some common sense as well. If something does not look right, most likely you will not have a good experience. There are some psychics who I have met that have never been in a book, radio show, or TV and are really good psychics. And the famous ones are very expensive and take years sometimes to get a reading. Some psychics have a waiting list of two days to two years, so you use your judgement on that call.

EFT is very easy to use upon the energy field, chakras or any feelings of resistance or blockage in the body. Often, with some clients who do not tend to feel much progress using EFT on regular issues, sometimes using it on the energy field can give them the shift they needed to happen. I even use it within a session while tapping regular issues.

You can go through each chakra and tap something like "Thank you God for healing this chakra of all energetic defects, clearing all blocks and bringing it into balance" or anything else that comes to mind. If a certain chakra feels blocked you can use the negative as well, such as; "Even though my crown chakra feels blocked or out of balance and I feel this painful headache, I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself."

You can use it to clear the energy field such as "Thank you God my energy field is clearing of all impurities and is filling up with bright while healing light" and adding rounds of tapping using any other statements that give you the feeling your energy field is lightening and opening up. You can tap in the all leaks and tears in the aura are healing and mending and that your energy field and energetic boundaries are becoming stronger.

You can put up shields, clear your energy of other people energy, dysfunctional cords and attachments, psychic attacks, or you can even use EFT to heal your energy of leakages and energy depletion. Basically the world is your oyster using EFT for these issues and you can just go with what you feel and implement it into a set up statement. Such as in the videos below or see the EFT articles/video page for how to create set up statements.

You can also use EFT on a lot of the Theta Healing type issues such as entities, attachments, curses, contracts, karma, and almost any other energy condition.

An example is below. Tap the following points with two or three fingers while repeating the statements (for more information on how to do EFT see my blogs on EFT):

Karate Chop Point:

• Even though I feel anxious, my thoughts are churning and I feel my energy can't relax, I deeply and completely love and accept myself
• Even though my energy feels tired and blocked, I deeply and completely love and accept myself
• Even though I feel like I am weighted down negative energies that may or may not belong to me, I deeply and completely love and accept myself

Top of Head Point:

• I am releasing all negative energies
• I am releasing all negative entities
• I am transmuting all impurities
• Replacing them with light and love

Eyebrow Point:

• I am releasing anything negative that comes up in my aura, and I deely and completely love and accept myself
• I am releasing all blocks in my energy field and all the resistances to releasing blocks in my energy field

Side of Eye Point:

• I am letting go of all cords, psychic attacks, old karma, energetic traumas, contracts to suffer or anything else that keeps me from being in divine alignment
• I am letting all negativity go, and with this, I feel so deeply and unconditionally loving and accepting of myself

Under Eye Point:

• I am clearing and healing my whole energy field and weaving it with light and love
• I feel my vibration rising and that anything that isnt part of a higher vibration drops from my energy grid.
• I am releasing everything that is not of my highest good, and replacing it with Creators light and love.

Under Nose Point:

• I am releasing and letting go of all negative attachments
• I am freeing myself from all heavy cords, digging them out and transplanting them with Your light
• I'm letting any energy that I took on from others release back to their original owner

Chin Point:

• I am releasing all negativity
• I am releasing all other entities and attachments into the hands of God, away from my presence to continue their evolution never to enter my personal space again.
• I am healing and strengthening my energetic boundaries, seeing them grow stronger and brighter
• Any leaks and tears being healed and fused

Collar Bone Point:

• I am flooding my entire energy field with the brightest and whitest healing light
• I am flooding it so full
• And I am letting it expand out so beautifully and so brightly
• I feel my energy and vibration rising
• I feel my chakras open, balance and expand out and I let them all expand out
• I feel all the love coming into each chakra and feel it going out
• Out into the "all that is", and I just allow...

Under Arm Point:

• My auric field is looking so clear, so white and so bright
• It is so beautiful
• My charkas are all spining so brightly, so beautifully, so clear of any blocks, and all are free of any energetic defects, aligned and in balance

Thumb Point:

• I'm flooding my energy field now with bright white healing flowing light.
• and I let it flow
• and I let my energy field expand out
• My energy field becomes overflowing with light and love as I keep tapping
• And I keep tapping into it a deep unconditional love and acceptance
• Of myself, of others and of Life

Index Finger Point:

• I keep tapping in that love
• I keep tapping in the joy of God
• I feel in the moment one with God, His Love and I know that I am divine
• I am worthy of all love, I always was

Middle Finger Point:

• I am a bright white sparkling being of light
• I deserve to trust it all and to believe in myself
• I deserve to keep walking with this light releasing everything I don't need to carry anymore

Pinky Finger Point:

• I feel everything I don't want or need being completely released, transmuted or let go of
• I can trust that it is all releasing and letting go
• Because I am giving it all to God, who loves me so much and who is offering me so much love for myself, filling my heart with His divine love.

• I am so full of love
• I am so full of God's Light
• My energy field is fully of sparking and magical light

Dear ones,

Never doubt that you have power. You have more than you can imagine...

Many of you are currently learning how to work with power within your personal lives and intimate relationships.  However, as you feel more comfortable, you can also learn how to use power in a greater sense: i.e. you can use your power to affect a larger stream of consciousness. By doing so, it is possible to affect great changes, both concerning your planetary experience and your relationship with Mother Earth.

You are part of a collective energy that has the ability to move as one consciousness. You have always been moving as one consciousness, you simply may not have been aware of this.

 

See this 'one' consciousness as if it were a stream of pure thought and energy. From and within this stream flows various smaller and smaller streams. Each smaller stream is comprised of different forms of thought which make up your beliefs about how to survive socially, physically and emotionally--as well as beliefs concerning culture, norms, religion, etc. Your individual consciousness is merely the smallest and most differentiated stream amongst larger and larger ones, and it is capable of existing both independently and as part of greater streams. For example: when motivated toward altruism and a greater purpose within the world, you are actively intending for your individual consciousness to affect a bigger and more collective stream of consciousness.

Furthermore, humans are not the only type of being capable of influencing various streams of consciousness. Many beings of many different kinds are involved in trying to affect the collective consciousness through influencing individual belief systems within it.

To achieve a more collective perspective, begin to allow yourself to see the world through the eyes of love. Make this love unbiased; that is, try not to force yourself to see the world in terms of positive or negative, simply what is. As you do this, begin to see how you are more than your personal world and daily living experiences. Allow yourself to tap into what flows beyond this.

As you shift your vision to allow a connection with a greater collective consciousness of thought and belief, you may begin to move back and forth between what appears to be two main systems of streams: one system is locked into the physical and emotional realities that you see within the world (represented by the collective conscious), while the other system moves beyond these realities and is free (represented by the collective superconscious). Some of you may even detect a third system, as represented by the collective subconscious. Now imagine placing streams emerging from lower levels of consciousness within the superconscious stream. The superconscious then becomes a purifying stream. In essence, the more still and present you are, as you allow yourself to flow with the superconscious stream, the more this stream will have a filtering effect; helping you weed through various mind-sets that you have been conditioned to adhere to in order to examine them for their truth..

Using an example: your worldly desires do form a part of you upon this earth for now, but they are not who you are as part of the superconscious stream. They are bits of information and a part of conscious and subconscious streams of thought and belief that never truly served the truth of who you are. They serve a collective energy that was formed and which left an impression through the streaming of ancestral stories, rituals, culture, family, learning, teaching, books, and more recently media, advertising, television, and more. But that awareness has been ever changing, and now you are reaching a stage in your evolution where a door can open to change that awareness once again. It will take courage, but keep moving forward in  order to create a more refined and purified state of belief and mind.

Likewise, know that you are more than your personal enslavement. You are more than your addiction to giving your power away to all that you do not even realize you have given your power away to.  All of your objects, agencies, governments, corporations, relationships, ideas, habits, etc. are part of a stream of consciousness that seeks to limit you.  Some of you do not yet understand that freedom is a thought. It has to be first thought of before there can be action to make it a reality. When you have been conditioned to believe that your freedom lies within certain constructs and streams of consciousness instead of outside of them, you accept your constraints as ideas that must be upheld.

If you can realize your freedom while remaining linked in your consciousness to the superconscious stream (meaning you are able to visualize it), you will learn that change does not have to come through any violent overthrow of the systems and physical realities you have given your power away to. You will realize that the belief that it has to come this way is simply another stream of thought you decided to join with your own. The biggest changes will emerge when the collective consciousness begins to shift via the shifting of your beliefs. Most of your beliefs pertain to what you have been taught to believe serves you and you can choose to learn to believe something else.

Look to all of your earthly desires as to what is at the root of them and start from there. The root to any desire is usually a call for Love: a desire to feel complete or whole, and to realize something that is beyond yourself. Also, you do not need to be afraid to join your consciousness with others in an effort to form new and more loving pathways. There is more that you can do banded together as a chain of love than you can do as an individual. It will be through unified thought and unfaltering clarity on a collective goal (for example, world peace or environmental healing) that will create the shift that many of you are looking for.

Most of all, never doubt your power as an individual to affect the whole. You are that whole, and you are responsible for that whole as well. The path of the individual and the path of the collective may seem separate right now, but they are one in the same. It is not necessary that you wait for the collective to make its intentions known in order for you to make yourself a link in its chain. You are already part of it. Now, see the chain transform into a band of light and spread your light and beauty into the world! And, whatever you create within that world, you must own as yours...

Music… Noise or Heavenly Tones?

As an empath, highly sensitive person and lightworker I find that if I’m going to listen to music it has to be the right sort ; it’s right for me if it lifts my emotions and mood, raises my energy to a higher vibration and heals and clears energy that has become stagnant.

I find some music to be offensive to my energy. It quite literally creates havoc with me and I can’t bear the sound, so being exposed to it is like having a severe ear and energy bashing that causes me to cover my ears and dive for the off switch or nearest exit!

Certain vocalists cause the same reaction. I just can’t resonate with the energy of their voice when they have a low or chaotic vibration. However, if their energy is high and uplifting it can compel me to listen, even root me to the ground or make me want to jump up and dance.

Music and sound affect our spiritual well-being and growth; it is very important to choose wisely when exposing ourselves and children to it. It can be hard to clear energy and raise our vibration if we are continually exposed to the wrong sort of sound and music.

If you are unsure of how music makes you feel or how it affects you just take a look at your body language and be aware of your thoughts, mood and reactions when you play certain songs and different styles of music. If your children tend to get out of control when you play certain music try turning it off and see if they calm down or experiment to find what music or sounds soothe them when they are behaving moodily or acting out of sorts.

Just bear in mind when playing music out loud – that which is a heavenly tone for one person could be an unbearable noise for someone else. Becoming aware of noise pollution includes more than just how loud the sound may be.

"Pick One Thing"

So many causes, so many problems. Daily I am inundated by emails from the right wing, the left wing, the fundamentalists, the progressives, the independents, pro-choice, pro-life; from those fighting for the homeless, for the hungry, for minorities, for children, for the elderly, for animals, for the environment, for health care, for Syria, for Israel, for Palestinians, for the rainforests…help us, give us money, give us time, do something or disaster will occur because you haven’t done anything.

And this week, we had the Boston Marathon bombings, the ricin letters, the Texas explosion, the failure of bills in Congress to address serious problems, and a dozen other local-to-each-of-us things that try our souls but are below the national radar.

All those black mutterings had me looking at what the world has become over the last decade. And then, historian that I am (and being married to a professional one to boot), I began to think back. Years… decades… centuries. In those days, there was time to think, to be deliberate in one’s actions and words. Basic civility was the norm, rather than the constant shrill demand that one’s personal rights were more important than the comfort or care of others around you. Everyone acknowledged a definite demarcation between work time and private time. Neighbors were not afraid of each other; they did not fear for their children’s very existence walking around the block alone. One knew that the world was still going to exist; that there was still a great deal of the earth untouched by mankind; that no matter how bad things got, the earth itself was going to be all right.

It feels like we have none of that now. The world is speeding up, constructed in such a way that what we have taken for granted in almost every area of our lives is being brought into question. What do we do? Go numb to avoid the sheer despair? Dive headlong into hedonism? What can anyone do?

And then I heard a voice in my head…clear, crisp, precise, and forceful.

“Pick one thing.”

This was without a doubt not my own thought, but from some Being outside of me — as clarion call as ever my guides and angels have given me.

“Pick one thing.”

We are all going to die, eventually. As Jim Morrison said, no one gets out of here alive. So whether one dies at home, safe and in bed; in a war zone; in a post-nuclear-winter survival scenario; or any one of the million ways it’s possible to leave this mortal coil – you are here now. For a week, a month, a year, five years, twenty. And in that time, while our world is more complex than it has ever been, you are still hands that can heal or feed or plant or create. You are a head that can think new thoughts, provide new intentions, and learn new responses. And you are still a heart that can hear truth, feel love rather than fear, and connect with all those who have been before and will be in the future – for the heart and the soul are our twin cores.

Today, I will pick one thing – one thing that I feel good doing. And instead of thinking of it as not enough because of everything else in the world that needs repair and redress, I will give that one thing my whole head and hand and heart. And thus, instead of despair, I will plant hope – in my own heart as well as others’. 

And I will make a difference.

If there is one wish I have for you, it would be that you, too, find your One Thing. It will be different for every one of you. But as long as you find it, treasure it, and work to heal it in a way that heals you as well, it will be the Right Thing.

Envisioning a Rainbow Bridge

Within my mind’s eye, as if in a dream, I saw the White Buffalo Calf Woman approaching me. She knows she needs no introduction. Without a word, she takes my left hand within her right palm and begins to lead me toward a beautiful and vast plane. It feels so calm there; a place unaffected by the ways, the means, or the hands of men. Upon the horizon the Lakota Prophetess traced with her finger an arch from right to left and a huge rainbow in all of its glory and color appeared.

Her finger re-tracing the movements of the arch, the White Buffalo Calf Woman asked me to notice how it starts at the level of the Earth plane, rises into the Heavens and descends back down to the Earth plane again. "So full of hope," she said. Another word that she spoke was "destiny." As she and I looked upon the rainbow together, she spoke; "This is your destiny, because this rainbow is part of who you are and of everything."

As she drew me closer to the rainbow, it seemed to tower so awesomely above me. However, the lady calf woman was not awed. She simply knew. She spoke lovingly; "Notice how a rainbow takes advantage of all of Earth's elements to tell a story. The light of a fiery sun casts itself onto droplets of moisture within the Earth’s atmosphere, splitting light into colors which then form a brilliant arch. This arch forms a bridge between Heaven and Earth, connecting all. And, notice how, wherever the rainbow may appear, and whatever the day has been or whether a storm has or has not passed through, the story of each rainbow is still always the same. Each contains all the same colors reflected in the same way."

She continued; "Your life on Earth, dear child, contains all the colors that life can attest. You, and all upon the Earth, hold all the colors that Pure White Light can possess. Such colors are displayed as split but joined together. Intangible but clearly visible, such a rainbow reveals its beauty, unmistakably and everywhere."

Within my mind’s eye and still as if in a dream, the White Buffalo Calf Woman then led me to the base of the Rainbow which became tangible in her presence. As I took a closer look, there were many people from many walks of life standing upon it at different intervals.

"Walk it," she would ask me, in almost the form of a demand. She knew that I would not resist. She walked with me, hand in hand. As I climbed the rainbow, I saw hands around me everywhere begin to join; men, women and children from every culture, religion, race or creed that could be imagined. Many natives joined this empowered chain as well.

Once gathered at the top of the rainbow, the Beautiful White Buffalo Calf woman in a voice so clear and calm called upon us; "Dear Children of Great Spirit and of His Earth, look down upon a world below. You've come so far." She continued; "For many of you that have reached the top of the rainbow, it is made known to you that it doesn't matter from what religion you come, or what color you are, or what manifestations you have made of your life, but that you are here and joined in One purpose: to walk your Earth journey as equals and as brothers while creating awareness of who you are as children of the Divine One."

She then turned to face us all and asked each of us; "Look upon the Earth more clearly, Dear Ones. May you all stand upon this bridge between Heaven and Earth and gain a higher perspective looking down... a higher perspective of all your collective fruits. See the path you paint upon your Loving Earth with all the colors of your conscious and unconscious prayers and energy. Look upon all of it now and with loving and unbiased awareness. From the top of the rainbow, you understand your true perfection. Only from here, from rising above and still standing in the truth of who you are, it is possible to look down, for how to intend, think, pray and live in ways which recognize the Earth as a being who is joined with you on your amazing journey to know One and All. This is how to have your bridge to heaven, return itself to Earth again and touch ground. Only through bridging back to Earth from heaven may you learn how in all ways is She, your Earth, capable of representing and acting as a mirror for the purity of your truest form; if you should allow. For, She is the shadow of who you are and what you do unto her, you do upon yourself, because you are One. And, if you let Her speak to you from this heightened position, She can teach you how to have your collective Earth life represent the vibration of the Pure White Light that all Her rainbows stem from."

She continued; "Look at Nature to see what has been created there. Where do you observe a tree growing healthy fruit, and where can be found polluting weeds that without boundaries threaten what tries to flower all around? Of whatever you observe, and without tagging anything as 'positive' or 'negative' and only 'what is', ask yourself what underlying thoughts, desires, beliefs, or seeds has it been sown from? Do not discount the effect of conventions, everyday habits and lifestyles, for these are seeds in action. Like weeds they may begin to propagate and sow until the original seed is hard to note or take accountability for."

Pointing toward a part of Earth that had been harmed by the ways of mankind, she spoke; "Here, located among the weeds, may you find the root of collective prayers and thought forms which have sown imbalance and chaos into a world so much seeking to know PEACE and LOVE." Pointing towards a part of nature living more vibrantly, she spoke; "Located within all that is beautiful, balanced and unpolluted, lay the seeds of nature's abundantly healthy and thriving fruits. From these you may learn how to think and pray in more united and more fertile ways." She added; "You can then break any mental conditioning in which you have falsely learned to mistake those seeds that bear unfriendly and polluting fruits as those seeds that ALL THAT IS should pursue and adore. WE, of ALL THAT IS wish you to understand CHOICE; one in which you may choose to sow and create what benefits the good of all, since all are One, including One with Earth."

She continued; "Test all your thoughts for their Truth in Spirit, for they all need to be tested. Test all your wants and prayers for their greater effects, for all have effects. Test what or who you most follow, believe, serve or buy into for 'how come?' See how your light and all your colors touch everything and a bigger picture of your world. Know that you are joined as one; within your minds, your hearts, and within what you create with your hands. You create it all. However, it never affects who you are in Spirit, it can only affect a reflection of how you know yourself and a story you would tell."

Then, in all of our left hands appeared a paintbrush. In all of our right hands appeared a palette of all the colors of the rainbow. Then, the Lakota prophetess petitioned us all once again; "Look how when you look down upon your Earth you can see how in your conjoined efforts you have painted a portrait of the Son of Man beginning to see himself as Son of Creator yet still painting a portrait of yourselves as primarily a Son of Man. Such a son is a son of industry, a son of bondage to all you would conform and falsely rely. You are not a creature of Self-destruction, and you do have a choice of whether you wish to paint a life that collectively unfolds in these ways."

She continued; "Dear Ones, be mindful of the divisions that you manifest that keep you separated from Peace and from your fellow man. In truth, you are all joined and One in Spirit with the Creator of All That Is."

Beauty, wisdom and strength radiating from her being she wanted to inform; "Make a choice to paint this truth upon the Earth you see. Paint this truth into your experience and reality. For, it is time to use what you know of your Self in a more embodied way. Look down from the top of this rainbow upon Nature to ask Her more clearly how. Because your material world is alive with mirrors, portraits and all that you choose to be painted and why you have painted them."

"See any internal ways in which you treat yourselves or Earth in ways that makes either polluted or unworthy. Brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, children and your Mother, the Earth, are ever worthy. However, through mankind's treating life unkindly, he has not seen the colors of what you all truly are and what ALL truly IS."

As she continued talking, she asked those who stood with her to look down upon the Earth in new ways with conjoined foresight and conscious intention. "Free your self," she said, "For you are here to learn a new freedom regarding who you are and why you came to Earth. Earth is a story about yourself, first not knowing who you are and then knowing Truth. You are not a product to buy or sell; you own nothing and are owned by nothing. When you define yourself through who you are within the world, you create suffering. When you define yourself through a new prayer you re-create Truth. If you cannot pray for PEACE in your world and can only pray for what brings to you chaos, why pray at all?"

As I was wondering what the potential would be if no one prayed at all, she seemed to read my mind and had one thing to say; "You always have a choice of whether you will chose to learn a lesson within a lifetime. Through not choosing, one can never fail, for you can only be what you Are. You merely have another opportunity to learn and a cycle repeats again."

And, with this last statement, the vision shifted, and White Buffalo Calf Woman showed a glimpse of a potential future. In the vision were many people dressed in white robes, living in shared communities, learning together, at peace with one another and the world. These communities seemed to be one's that respected the Earth Mother and our brothers, sisters, elders and children. They did not operate on money but upon sharing and trade. Lifestyles were simpler and gentler. Power was ecologically responsible and people lovingly shared responsibilities in tending the land. These communities were one's that lived the rainbow bridge, seeking to bridge Earth to Heaven, while knowing how to bridge Heaven back to Earth again.

Who is the White Buffalo Calf Woman?

The White Buffalo Calf woman is part of the Lakota traditions. She appeared as an apparition of a young and beautiful woman in white clothing. She gave the Lakota’s many sacred rituals including the "chanunpa" or sacred peace pipe and taught ways of prayer. She said "With this holy pipe you will walk like a living prayer. With your feet resting upon the earth and the pipe stem reaching into the sky, your body forms a living bridge between the Sacred Beneath and the Sacred Above. Wanka Tanka smiles upon us because we are now as one; earth, sky, all living things, the two legged, the four legged, the winged ones, the trees, the grasses." All are related and all are one family.

White Buffalo Calf woman would leave but promised to return again. As she left she walked off in the same direction she had come and rolled over 4 times turning into 4 different colors of buffalo, the last one the white buffalo calf.

Free Will Vs. The Soul Path....

In our profession, we are called upon to discern or predict the future.  To analyze what events will occur.I have concluded that there are two types of scenarios.  One is free will, which is based on the person’s right to take Path A or Path B.  This occurs by the choices that we make.  For example, a client may ask “should I take that new job in San Francisco or remain where I am presently employed?”  I will analyze and confer with my spirit guides to see which is the best decision for what I term ‘their highest good’.  I must look at all potential scenarios for my client.   Will the new job be beneficial to my client?  Will she prosper there?  Will she be happy in the new area?  But this analysis of my client’s question becomes a bit complicated when my guides tell me the ‘soul path’ is involved.  

The “soul path” means choices that are made by the soul prior to their incarnation. For each soul comes into this dimension of Earth to grow and evolve, not as a human, but as a soul.The soul may want to experience financial hardships, ill health, personal relationship issues, etc. If my client that wants to take that job in San Francisco because on a soul level, they need to be at that location to experience/learn how to get along with co-workers, then indeed that choice would be for their highest good.   It is for the edification and purification of the soul.  

So my client takes that job in San Francisco and then calls me to tell me she is having all these problems with her co-workers.  She then asks me why I did not tell her that would happen!  It is because her soul chose to experience this so she could overcome and grow.I do not believe in accidents or coincidences.  There is no such thing!  For all of us are constantly creating our future reality in the present, or NOW.  

Furthermore, murders, car accidents, or being in the wrong place at the wrong time are not valid.  There is a reason. 

A very good example of what I mean goes back to the early 1990’s.  A famous football star’s wife and friend were brutally murdered in California.  They were willing participants of that carnage because the souls needed to experience the vehicle of murder. The trial of that star , my guides told me at that time, was for specific reasons. Some of the reasons were to present the criminal justice system in a manner that would hopefully enlighten and change human consciousness perspective of racial prejudice, of large sums of money to defend the accused, of humans’ distorted value system.  I recall when the not guilty verdict was read that I heard my guides say “this is a sad day for your people on Earth”.  Why? I asked them.  The messages were delivered, but not read or accepted. That trial was supposed to help humans examine their priorities and rise above the TV & media hype, the name calling, the racism and prejudice.   Yes, it was a sad day for us on Earth. 

When a psychic reads you and they do not tell you of a future event and then you ask the psychic why they did not see that happening, there are two reasons.  One, we do not see all.  Two, it was not the TIME for that to be revealed.  

The author, Iris Bellhayes, wrote in her book:  “We can only see those things which are available to our awareness at the level of consciousness in which we reside”.   If you are not ready to hear the message, spirit will not reveal it to you.  For  enlightened spirits will not interfere with the ‘soul path’, or your free will. 

Think of the ‘soul path’ as the ruling factor in your life.   Yes, you have free will.  But if you soul has pre-determined what it needs to experience, nothing can prevent that situation or event from occurring.  For you have decided, before your birth, that you are going to experience the event! Even world predictions are affected by free will and the soul path.  If we change our consciousness to a higher level, we will evolve into a time where there will be harmony, truth and happiness.  

I believe that September, 11, 2001 or ‘911’ was pre-ordained to happen.  And the greatest medium or psychic who may have seen this event beforehand, such as I did in 1999, can do nothing to prevent it.So take some private time to meditate, pray, and get very clear with yourself about what questions you want to ask your psychic.  But always consider asking “what am I to learn from this?” or what am I here to learn?”.  You will find more peace and a better understanding of our profession as well as how to regulate your own life.

Addiction to Unrequited Love

The Torchbearer—S/he will love me one day -

It may sound silly for an individual to be addicted to unrequited love, but it can sometimes be the result of growing up in a household where love was either conditional or inconsistent. As a result, the child of such a household may have felt anxious to win the love, praise or affection of a parent—or someone else influential—who was unavailable, abusive or failed to provide proper nurturing. Thus, such a child became a ‘torchbearer,’ i.e. they put their parent or other influential role model on a pedestal, looking up to them to receive recognition or approval.

Alternatively, the child could have witnessed one parent in an unrequited love relationship with the other and taken that energy on. If it wasn't an issue of childhood environment, then possibly some sort of other trauma occurred to upset the torchbearer’s self-esteem, as well as their ability to feel safe receiving love. Sometimes there may have occurred a sudden and unexpected separation, betrayal, health, or appearance issue. Other times, an individual may begin this pattern after leaving/ending an abusive marriage or relationship. Subconsciously there may be a fear of being loved and committed to because it means getting close enough to someone who can become controlling or hurtful. At the same time, however, there is a strong desire for commitment and to feel  safe, cherished and approved of.

Whatever the case, the torchbearer may find themselves attracted to love situations that seem to keep them stuck in a predictable dynamic: loving someone without receiving love back. Although the torchbearer may feel unworthy of love on one level, they often know they are worthy on another. This inner conflict can result in the torchbearer feeling confused as to why they stay addicted to an unavailable person. The relationship then becomes about fantasy, idealization, and/or avoidance. In some cases a love-hate relationship ensues where the addict both loves and disapproves of the object of their devotion.

According to Susan Peabody, author of Addiction to Love: Overcoming Obsession and Dependency in Relationships, the main categories of love addictions include:

• obsessed love addicts: these love addicts obsess about their love interest and cannot let go even if their love interest is unavailable or abusive
• codependent love addiction: these love addicts need to please a partner to feel a sense of self, approval or self-worth.
• narcissistic love addicts: these love addicts take advantage of their partner. They can act disinterested, selfish or abusive even though they feel addicted to their love interest and may not be able to let go
• ambivalent love addicts: this category of love addicts includes unrequited love addicts (also known as 'torch-bearers'), saboteurs, seductive withholders, and romance addicts. The main goal of the love addict (often subconscious) is to avoid true intimacy and bonding. These love addicts often crave love and affection, but are afraid to get too close to a love interest at the same time.

As stated above, an ambivalent love addict is usually characterized as an individual who both deeply craves love, intimacy, commitment and unconditional love, while at the same time experiencing fears of relating deeply to another person. Such love addicts end up consciously or unconsciously pushing love away or holding it at a distance. At a subconscious level, it can feel much safer for these individuals to love someone who isn't fully available or who is not interested in a full commitment. Becoming attracted to an individual who is married, committed to another, distant, a player, a saboteur, someone they can never approach, or a sex addict may act to help the torchbearer avoid a true relationship/intimacy. Some torchbearers end up attracted to friends or colleagues, hoping the attraction will become something more. Sometimes the love object may not even know the love addicts is attracted to them. The love addict may be waiting for the love object to show interested before exposing their own feelings.

With many of the torchbearers that I have provided intuitive readings, I find they are good at rationalizing and creating various excuses for their need to continue fantasizing over the love interest. Simultaneously, there may also be a counter-productive excuse for never letting the love interest know their real feelings. So, this keeps the torchbearer in a mode of waiting, either for the right time to express their feelings, or for the day that their love interest will acknowledge them in a desired way.

I have found that an interesting dynamic can occur in a few cases if the torchbearer actually succeeds at winning the affections and commitment of the individual they desire it from. What is this dynamic? Either the craving is cured because the love addict loses interest now that their feelings have been reciprocated, or the love addict lives out the same high anxiety throughout a committed relationship based on severe fears of being rejected (because the commitment is now making them face their deepest fear— if someone gets too close to them they will find them unlovable and abandon them). In essence, the torchbearer runs the risk that even if they obtain the object of their desire, they may not achieve the closeness or intimacy they crave unless they change why they were addicted in the first place. Sometimes the addiction simply changes. An addict may transform from a torchbearer into a seductive withholder, codependent love addict, or other.

 

Sometimes the love addict is so used to getting a 'high' off of feelings of fear and obsession that being in a normal relationship where love is reciprocated may not feel challenging enough. The love addict may feel like they lack passion for the other person. The end result continues to be the avoidance of a real intimate attachment that is capable of providing true love, security and protection.

For example, if you look at King Henry the VIII, he would take mistress after mistress and get bored very quickly and be done with them. With regard to Anne Boleyn, Henry became obsessed with her primarily because she refused his advances. However, once they married, consummated their relationship and bore a child, he quickly lost interest.

So, how do you know if you are addicted to unrequited love? The list below is not a comprehensive list, but merely notes characteristics I typically see with predominantly female clients:

• Do you obsess over or find yourself only attracted to love interests who are not available in some way, married, playing you, 'just friends,' or have left you?
• Do you fear communicating your feelings to your love interest? i.e. Do you fear asking them their feelings? Or, alternatively, do you find yourself communicating what you want over and over, unable to accept a lack of response (or a half-hearted response) as simply an indicator that your love object may not be on the same page?
• Do you suffer in silence while you hold adoration towards someone who doesn’t really know? (While some unrequited love addicts pursue their interests openly and ardently, others can hold torches for people who have no idea the love addict either exists or has feelings for them.)
• Do you expect your love interest to be psychic or empathic enough to know and interpret your feelings and needs, even though you have been unable to communicate anything?
• Are you living out your relationship psychically, in your head, or vicariously through ‘signs’? Are you feeling that you are always ’picking up’ on or empathically sensing your love objects feelings, projections or emotions even though there is no contact or grounded evidence he feels these ways?
• Do you find yourself always hoping and waiting for some indication your feelings are reciprocated, which days and weeks go by and then months and you are still hoping and waiting?
• Are you never able to feel ‘close’ in a real way to the person you are holding a torch for?
• Are you continually asking yourself many questions, wondering about the other person’s feelings and intentions (or potential future intentions) without ever grounding anything to test to see if your fantasies are real?
• Do you have other addictions, such as to sex, psychics, alcohol etc.?
• Do you feel you cannot let go of the love interest even though it is not making you feel loved? Do feel powerless to stop at will?
• Is the preoccupation with this interest having a more negative affect on you spiritually, financially or in other ways, than positive? In the end, are you losing more than you gain?
• Do you have a history of being hurt or obsessing on lack of love, attention or approval by a parent or someone else influential in your earlier life?

For those with less intense expressions of this addiction:

• Are you confused why you only seem to attract individuals where your feelings are stronger than theirs? If so, do you feel bored with people who are into you or once a relationship starts to develop?
• Does it seem that all of the individuals who would be the 'right type' for you (i.e. loving toward you) are individuals you cannot see yourself 'falling in-love' with?

In general, if you have a love interest that you crave but are afraid to reach out to in any real and genuine way for fear of rejection, then you might be addicted to unrequited love. You may also be addicted if there is an underlying knowledge that expressing your wants and needs would not be appropriate. I've talked to many clients who are totally engaged with these types of interests, sometimes even sexually, but they know on some level there are certain things they cannot ask/dare communicate because their love interest is not on the same page (and on some level they know it).

Here is an example of one kind of non-communicative unrequited love addict who does have some form of relationship and interaction with her love interest:

A woman starts to like an attractive man. They meet and there is some flirting—the man seems interested in the woman. Information is exchanged and this is followed by mixed signals that mark the relationship. The woman starts obsessing and fantasizing about having a relationship with the man. However, the man won't make a clear indication that he is interested; i.e. he may not be calling her. So, the woman ends up doing most of the contacting to keep the interaction ongoing. The woman attempts to ‘act’ as casual as possible because she wants the man to make his interest known first. She is getting some cues of affection and indication of interest, but it’s kept at a superficial level. Thus, she always feels unsure. This goes on for some time, even months, and the woman starts to frequently ask herself, “Does this guy really want a relationship, or am I just a casual interest or a friend?” Despite feeling a sense of unknowing and distress, the woman will never risk asking to find out. She starts asking for advice from other friends who tell her to forget about the love interest; yet she hangs on in hopes that he will ask for a real date, a commitment or show he cares.

The man is simply not putting out a vibe of wanting a full-on relationship. However, within the mind of the woman, she starts to fantasize that maybe he is just scared, can't communicate or is insecure. She carries hope that he will start to be more demonstrative or want something more if she can just be patient enough or never upset the status quo. She even wonders, “Should I say something or make a move?,” but something inside is telling her it's not safe to tell this person how she feels because they are not on the same page. So, she keeps holding a torch. Eventually, she finds out the man has started to pursue someone else and she feels upset and betrayed. But, in the end, she has never had a clear indication that they were in a 'relationship.'
